I came across one of my favorite contributors to Domino Magazine (yes, I am still mourning its loss) while scrolling through the New York Times online. Rita Konig is one of those spunky chicks who drives around in a little red vintage fiat and can make the most heinous flea market find look fabulous. So, when this article about the lowly cane shade (bamboo blinds) came up I had to check it out.
After living among half-uphostered couches and sheets at the windows since moving into her new apartment 7 months prior, she took matters into her own hands and went to Pearl River Mart to attack the "frosting" to any room's "cake"---the window treatments. I absolutely love cane shades because they come in a wide variety of colors, textures, and thicknesses and still let in a fair amount of light. Best of all, they are easy to install yourself and they are CHEAP. This is about as shitty-chic as it gets, and I love it....Now the only question is how you get it home. Haha. Bravo Rita!
