Ultimate Accessory: The Vintage Watch

I am nothing short of obsessed with vintage watches....vintage Rolex watches to be exact. There is just something so charming about them: like they have been passed down from relatives of yesteryear to be loved by another generation. Well, if you don't have a Daddy Warbucks or long lost rich uncle who leaves things like that in their will then, my dear, you should save your pennies and get hunting on the internet. There are deals to be had and some gorgeous timepieces who need loving homes.

I have found a two great sites for vintage/pre-owned luxury watches. The first is Portero.com which is an online auction site that also sells high-end bags, accessories, housewares, and the like. The best thing about this site is that the authenticity is guaranteed by Tourneau (unlike sites like Ebay where it is buyer beware with little retribution if you get duped into spending $3k on a fake). Savings are roughly 40% off estimated retail value, and the selection is just great. They also offer selections from Cartier, Breitling, Omega, and the list goes on.

I also love going to 1stdibs.com to peruse their collection from the best estate and antique jewelry dealers. 1stDibs is like being able to browse antique districts in Paris, New York, London, and just about everywhere in the world from your laptop. There are some great finds on this site, especially from a dealer in Lost Angeles most appropriately called, Wanna Buy a Watch. Also, I highly recommend checking out their Style Compass and Required Reading lists to get inspiration from style mavens and tastemakers the world over.

In a ear where the timepiece has gone by the wayside in favor of Blackberries and cell phones, I think the largest style statement can be said with one accessory: a fabulous watch.
